About Tank & Well

More than one in five American households treats its own wastewater with a septic system, and about 23 million households drink from a private well. If that’s you, you’re your own water utility — and nobody sends a reminder when the tank needs pumping or the water needs testing.

Tank & Well exists to fix that. We publish plain-English guides on septic and well care, and we send free email reminders so the every-few-years chores don’t slip through the cracks. Our guidance follows public recommendations from the EPA (including the SepticSmart program) and the CDC, and we link to the primary sources in every guide.

What we are not

We are an educational resource — not a septic contractor, a certified laboratory, or a health authority. Estimates like pump-out timing are general guidance; your local health department and licensed professionals always have the final word.

How we make money

Some guides recommend products — like certified mail-in water test kits — through affiliate links. If you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. It never changes what we recommend. Details on our disclosure page.
