Every state runs its private-well and septic programs a little differently — different agencies, different testing recommendations, different permit rules. This directory links straight to the official state agency pages for all 50 states, so you can find your state's testing programs, approved labs, and septic requirements without digging.
Two things to know before you dive in. First, in many states septic permits are actually issued by your county or local health department — the state page will point you to the right local office.
